HEALTH EQUITY INITIATIVES: Tarrant County is committed to improve health outcomes by working in partnership with coalitions and organizations that empower communities of color on all levels to become advocates for health and wellness and work together to improve health outcomes for all. The department hired me as Healthy Equity Coordinator in October 2008. To introduce the concept of equity in all work that comes out of Tarrant County Public Health Department, we will be having trainings and regular conversations to help staff be on the same page. Simultaneously, we are forming community partnerships and coalitions so that we can have a village approach, understand and work together towards health equity in all areas of health access and preventive health. In addition, through social marketing create a campaign for wellness. I will also look for health disparity funding so we can grow from one staff person to a team/department and eventually a center committed to health equity in Tarrant County, Texas.

I would welcome and mentorship from others who have successfully integrated equity into their departments' work.
