Life Expectancy at Birth (Annual Estimates in Years)

NOTICE how the U.S. ranks compared to Japan, Sweden and the United Kingdom. Are you surprised the U.S. ranks so low?

U.S. life expectancy ranks lower today than ever

In 1980, U.S. life expectancy was 73.7 years, and ranked 14th internationally. By 2007, the U.S. lagged behind at least 28 other countries, including poorer ones like Chile and Greece.

According to some experts, based on the general correlation between per capita wealth and health, Americans “should” live an average 3 years longer than we do.
